Match Review

The Penrith Panthers have recorded back-to-back wins for the first time in 2014 as they claimed a 26-20 victory in the Nation's capital over the Canberra Raiders as 8,892 watched on at GIO Stadium.

Reece Robinson put the Raiders on the front foot quickly as he scored the quickest try of the 2014 season posting points after just 34 seconds. The Raiders led early, 6-0.

The tide turned as the visiting Panthers hit back with three consecutive tries through David Simmons (5th minute), Josh Mansour (16th minute) and Matt Moylan (20th minute). However, Jamie Soward's kicking radar was misguided as he slot just 1/3 attempts. Midway through the opening half, the Panthers held a 14-6 lead.

Reece Robinson grabbed his second try with some crafty footwork as he surged over in the white line to close the gap to 2 points, Panthers 14-12.

Anthony Milford sparked the Raiders attack as he provided a brilliant inside flick pass to see Jarrod Croker capture the lead for the home side. The Raiders took a 16-14 lead into the sheds after 40 minutes.

The Panthers fired early in the second half to mount a raid on the Canberra try line posting two tries inside the first 10 minutes of the new half. James Segeyaro (46th minute) stole points from acting half and David Simmons (51st minute) finished off a set back line movement featuring Peter Wallace, Dean Whare and Matt Moylan.

Anthony Milford looked to give the Green Machine some life in the final minutes as he pulled out a miracle four-pointer as he dived in the corner despite the defensive efforts of Jamie Soward.

The Raiders unable to fight back after leading at half time as the Panthers held out to win 26-20.

Next week the Canberra welcome the travelling North Queensland Cowboys at GIO Stadium, meanwhile the Panthers take a week off through a bye.
