Junior Thoroughbreds to play at ANZ

A group of budding young Scone Thoroughbreds will have the privilege of playing at a NRL game at ANZ Stadium this weekend and the youngsters are bouncing with excitement.

The Scone Under 7s thoroughbreds will play prior to the game and throughout half time when the Parramatta Eels meet the West Tigers at ANZ Stadium in the For the Farmers round on Easter Monday.

It's not just any old game either, the Easter Monday match between the Parramatta Eels and West Tigers is following the theme of ‘For the Farmers' (#forthefarmers), celebrating the contribution farmers make to our community and Australia, and the unique experience of living on the land.

The Scone Junior Rugby League Under 7s team were invited along with another country team - the Moss Vale Dragons - and two Parramatta district teams to play prior to and at half time of the game.

The initiative is being held to coincide with the Sydney Royal Easter Show and the youngsters not only received a free ticket to the football game, but also a ticket to enter the show.

The Parramatta Eels have partnered with the NSW Farmers' Association, as well as the Country Rugby League to make sure that the heartland of footy is represented at the game.

Scone Junior Rugby League committee member Aaron Watts said all 20 Under 7s players were invited, however due to the school holidays and other commitments a team of 10 will be going.

He said it is very exciting for the children as most of them are in their first or second year of football.

The Under 7s are coached by Maurice Watts and Scott Lyne, however only Mr Watts will be able to attend.

"Credit goes to the junior league for being invited to such a prestigious event," he said.

The players to represent Scone on Monday include Isaac Cameron, Cooper Clark, Tyson Connolly, Andrew Crowther, Harry Hardes, Bradley Johnson, Baxter Keats, Charlie Smith, Jake Wamsley and Kai Watts.

Reconciliation Cup Curtain Raiser To Sea Eagles v Raiders

The 2015 Group 9 Reconciliation Cup will be played as the curtain raiser to the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles and Canberra Raiders NRL clash at Lavington Oval, Albury NSW.

The Reconciliation Cup has been running since 2009 and has featured guest appearances and support from Indigenous Rugby League Immortal Arthur Beetson as well as modern day players George Rose, Timana Tahu, Joe Galuvao and Joel Thompson.

The Reconciliation Cup will feature two squads of 20 players who have been selected from Group 9's First-Grade competition consisting of the Group 9 Indigenous All Stars and Group 9 All Stars sides.

Group 9 Indigenous All Stars Captain, and former Wests Tigers and Gold Coast Titans player Ben Jeffreys, believes the opportunity to play as the curtain raiser to an NRL game will not be lost on the players.

"It's a real privilege for all players in Group 9 to be involved in this game and playing as the curtain-raiser to an NRL game will make it a special occasion for many of the players involved," said Jeffreys.

"I'm Captain-Coach this year and we're aiming for four wins in a row, so if we can achieve that it would be pretty special for all of us involved."

Group 9 All Stars Captain, and former Manly Warringah Sea Eagles player Nick Skinner, was hopeful that a large crowd would be in attendance to watch the game.

"It's my first time being involved in the Reconciliation Cup and I think it's a really important concept for Group 9 Rugby League," said Skinner.

"I've got a lot of friends playing in the Indigenous side and a lot of friends in the Group 9 All Stars side so I'm really looking forward to getting out there and enjoying the game.

"It's a special event and hopefully we can draw a strong crowd to support the game."

The Reconciliation Cup promotes racial inclusiveness with respect and admiration for the contribution that Indigenous athletes have made to the game of Rugby League.
