In the Spotlight - Round 8

Good day to you sir/madam.Round eight of In The Spotlight, comin' atcha.

Well, crikey, struth and shiver me timbers, I've done it again. The Chookies might not have gotten the choccies against the Storm on the weekend, but didn't my old pal James Maloney step up to the plate? (No need to answer that, it was a rhetorical question). Two linebreak assists, two try assists and a sign that maybe, just maybe, he can turn things around this year.

Luckily for the boys in purple, Cooper Cronk is a specialist at extinguishing fires in his village and he did it again on Saturday night. We are still awaiting the test results, but I'm confident they will confirm the bloke is actually a robot. Bloody Queenslander. Anyway, young James bounced back big time and did everything he could to try and halt the Roosters losing streak. Chalk that up as another Spotlight triumph.

James Roberts nabbed a sneaky try in his side's belting of the Panthers, but his statistics weren't quite as convincing. Eight runs for 47 metres isn't super reading, but four tackle breaks means he still troubled the defensive line. Still work to do Jimbo. Just being lightning quick and a good sort doesn't guarantee success-like me*, you need to work at it.

* Reality: I run the 100 in four minutes and look like Moe Szyslak from The Simpsons.

This week's future stars, step right up!

Michael Jennings
They call Jenko the candy man, because of the confectionary in his heels.*
*Absolute fabrication.

Unfortunately, the lollies in his loafers have been replaced by some cow dung in his clodhoppers. Considered a near-certainty for the Blues, I reckon Mick can get better; a lot better. Now, I admit it's hard for a centre to thrive when your halves are struggling, and it's hard for the halves to thrive when the forwards are struggling-talk about a bloody pickle of a jam! Despite all of that, we all know how good Jennings can be and with rep footy a stone's throw away, it's time to perform.

Kurt Gidley
I'm not saying Gids is old, but I still remember with much delight the wonderful combination he had with Jesus as a pair of roving fullbacks for Jerusalem back in the glory days. Way, way back at the end of round four, the Knights were flying higher than Snoop Dogg on a Saturday night. Four straight wins, sitting pretty as ladder-leaders and looking like a million bucks. But alas, three consecutive losses have followed and Kidley needs to lift his side with his actions.

Now the formalities are done, get into some Snoop.
