Storm sail past Cronulla in the Shire

The Melbourne Storm have moved closer to securing a top four spot with a convincing 30-2 win over the Cronulla Sharks at Remondis Stadium in front of 10,269.

The Sharks only troubled the scoreboard attendant on one occasion as Michael Gordon took a penalty goal on offer at the 7th minute to take a 2-0 lead.

Jesse Browmich opened the Storm's account at the 12th minute as an opportunity presented itself as Cooper Cronk provided a quick pass to open a Sharks defensive hole.

Matt Duffie has found his best form since returning from injury as he grabbed a try either side of the half time break. Melbourne took a 12-2 lead into the sheds after forty minutes.

It wasn't until 26 minutes until the second half that the Storm crossed the white line again as Matt Duffie collected his second. Ben Barba had been on the field for 60 seconds and his presence not enough to shut down the Melbourne attack, leading 18-2.

Dale Finucane didn't have a game to remember as errors cost his side possession throughout the contest. However, despite adding his name to the scorers sheet, his night didn't improve as he was assisted off the field late in the game with a suspected broken arm.

Man of the Match Cameron Munster sealed victory for the visitors as he cleaned up a Jeff Robson mistake to sail away 45 metres to score untouched. Melbourne closed out the game, 28 point winners.

Next week the Cronulla Sharks open Remondis again as they welcome the Wests Tigers on Saturday, while the Melbourne Storm head back home to host the Newcastle Knights on Monday Night.
