QRL confirms massive Grand Final Day program

Scenes of celebration and pure grand final exhilaration will grip Suncorp Stadium when the home of rugby league in Queensland hosts the Cup's 20th premiership decider on September 27.

The Sunday afternoon Intrust Super Cup blockbuster rounds out an exceptional match day program, with three lead up games making for a feast of rugby league entertainment.

Fans can dine out on the NRL Development Cup (Primary Schools final), Schoolboys Test between Australia and New Zealand and the FOGS Colts Challenge decider.

Tickets for the bumper day of rugby league action will be released for sale at 9am tomorrow through Ticketek.

"To be able to play our showpiece Intrust Super Cup grand final at this first-class facility provides an exciting opportunity for our players, clubs and supporters," QRL head of football Neil Wharton said today.

"It is fitting that we are once again back at Suncorp Stadium this year as this very ground hosted the inaugural Cup grand final between the Toowoomba Clydesdales and Redcliffe Dolphins in 1996.

"During this year's finals series, we will salute the champions of the past with a number of exciting initiatives based around our theme ‘Celebrating 20 Years'.

Esteemed poet Rupert McCall has penned a stirring tribute - "Every Sacred Blade of Grass" - which will form part of the celebrations at the QRL Gala Dinner and grand final day.

Another initiative will see the competition's finest players over the past two decades acknowledged at Suncorp Stadium. An experienced panel is currently meeting weekly to select the ‘20th Year Anniversary Team'. (More details on this project will be provided soon on QRL.com.au)

Six clubs remain in contention to lift the Intrust Super Cup on the final Sunday of September.

For the second year running, Queensland's premier rugby league competition has been lit up by the Papua New Guinea Hunters - who are locked in a fierce battle with the Townsville Blackhawks for the minor premiership.

Ipswich Jets, Wynnum Manly Seagulls, Easts Tigers and Northern Pride are the four other semi-finalists in the running to become the competition's 20th premiership-winner.
