Souths single out Eels poor defence

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have rolled through the Parramatta Eels, 32-12, at Pirtek Stadium as #RiseForAlex Round kicks off with 16,125 in attendance. The crowd figure sees $16,125 donated by the NRL in support of the Alex McKinnon foundation with $1 donated for each attendee across Round 19.

The Eels started strongly with Nathan Hindmarsh look-a-like Tepai Moeroa making a big impact with a surging run through the Rabbitohs defence via a Corey Norman pass. After 10 minutes, the Eels led 6-0.

It was to be the end of the Eels attack in the first half as the Rabbitohs made use of their limited opportunities to take a 10-6 lead into the half time break with four-pointers to Lote Tuqiri (27th minute) and Sam Burgess (40th minute).

Alex Johnston kicked off the second half as he strolled over for his first try of the night as the Eels defence cracked again as the shifting play from Greg Inglis caused issues.

Joseph Paulo returned serve for the Eels mid-way through the half, again via the pin-point kick of Corey Norman. Souths held a 16-12 lead as the Eels' faithful remained hopeful of a comeback.

Sadly for the Eels fans, their hope was dashed as the Rabbitohs began their roll on, scoring a further three tries in the remaining 15 minutes. Kyle Turner (65th minute), Alex Johnston (72nd minute) and Sam Burgess (76th minute) all crossed as the Eels defence collapsed under the slightest pressure.

Parramatta will need to back tackling pads as they drop to 12th on the competition table and could drop further pending other results.

A few players will have a case to answer at the NRL Judiciary as Lote Tuqiri came up with a crusher tackle on Jarryd Hayne in the 22nd minute, an incident he apologised for post-match. Chris Sandow was penalised for a shoulder charge flop in the 36th minute on Dylan Walker and Joseph Paulo pinged for a high tackle on Thomas Burgess.

Next week the Eels fly north to the Gold Coast when they clash with the Titans, meanwhile the Rabbitohs head to the Nation's Capital in preparation for their Monday Night game against the Raiders.
