Match Review

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have braved the almost zero degree temperatures in the National Capital to defeat the Canberra Raiders, 22-14 at GIO Stadium in front of 10,873 fans.

Ricky Stuart continues to struggle to build the Raiders to victory as they slump again to defeat.

Both Josh Reynolds and Trent Hodkinson backed up from State of Origin, Game II on Wednesday Night to lead their side to a four tries to two victory.

Jarrod Croker was the standout performer for the Raiders scoring 10 of the 14 points for the Green Machine. He put the Raiders in front after just six minutes with surging run over the Bulldogs defence, Raiders 6-0.

Drury Low claimed his first four-pointer 10 minutes later as, Man of the Match, Tim Lafai provided a brilliant tip on pass for his winger. The Raiders held a slim 2 point lead, 6-4.

Croker overruled his captain, Terry Campese and elected for a penalty goal in the 24th minute which left Campese fuming. The Raiders jumped ahead 8-4.

Canterbury went on to post a further two tries as the half time siren approached. Raids on both wings saw Corey Thompson (33rd minute) and Drury Low (38th minute) crack the Canberra defence. After 40 minutes, the visitors led, 14-8.

In a decision which left Raiders fans searching for answers in the 50th minute, Tim Lafai was awarded his try by Video Referees, Luke Phillips and Henry Perenara. Lafai cleaned up fumble on the try line by Reece Robinson in the attempt to return in the field of play.

NSW Blues star halfback, Trent Hodkinson put the Bulldogs in front by 14 points with a 67th minute penalty goal, Bulldogs 22-8 leaders.

After being left on the bench for 50 minutes, Anthony Milford bolted into a defensive hole off a well-weighted Campese grubber kick to score the Raiders 2nd try. However it was too late for the home side as they went down 22-14.

Next week the Raiders head up the Hume Highway to Campbelltown Stadium on Saturday to battle with Wests Tigers. Meanwhile, the now 4th placed Bulldogs take a well deserved break with a bye.
