Broncos crush the Roosters in golden point

A Ben Hunt try in extra time sees the Broncos defeat the Roosters 22-18 at Suncorp Stadium in front of 35,630 fans.

The Roosters got out to an early lead through a Shaun Kenny-Dowall try. The Broncos hit back fairly quickly and four minutes later, Ben Hunt goes over for his first try of the game.

Both teams did themselves no favours in the first half with a high penalty count. The Broncos were able to capitalise on the Roosters penalties by kicking two penalty goals in the first 40 minutes.

It was clear the Roosters intended on having a quick game but this didn't seem to phase the Broncos.

Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Sam Thaiday couldn't keep away from each other and came face-to-face numerous times in the first half.

Every time Roosters had a penalty go their way, they seemed to ruin their chances with an unforced error. The second half was no different with Corey Parker slotting over another penalty goal 6 minutes in.

The Roosters were able to force back to back repeat sets through Maloney who then runs straight through a gap to go over for the four points.

Their lead didn't last for too long with Broncos hitting back 10 minutes later through and Alex Glenn try. Glenn had to beat two Roosters defenders and made it look easy. Scores were level after Corey Parker slotted over the conversion.

After failed field goal attempts from both teams, the scores were locked at 18-all with 80 minutes on the clock and the game went to Golden Point.

As usual, Golden Point resorted to a field goal frenzy with both teams getting into good position but failing to get the point.

The Broncos heads went down after Hunt kicked the ball out on the full and the Roosters went on the attack 40m out from their own line.

The Roosters were unable to make many metres which saw Broncos get the ball in good field position. Everyone thought Hunt was going to go for the field goal when the Broncos got into their own half but he ran the ball and snuck through the line and went on to score a try.

The Broncos will now travel to Jubilee Oval to take on the Dragons next Friday, while the Roosters are off to AAMI Park to take on Melbourne next Saturday evening after two straight losses.
