RESULTS: VB NSW Cup 2015 Round 16

NZ Warriors 36 (D Fusitu'a 3, G Fisiiahi, N Roache, S Lousi tries; M Lino 6 goals) bt Mounties 28 (M Barnett 2, Mark Nicholls, M Cornish, G Aiga tries; Cornish 4 goals)

SUMMARY: David Fusitu'a bagged a second half hat-trick in the Warriors' impressive 36-28 win over the Mounties at Mount Smart Stadium. After leading 18-12 at halftime the Warriors were ahead 36-18 midway through the second half before the Mounties responded with two tries to tighten it up. However, the home side held on for an eight-point victory which enabled them to leap frog the visitors into second spot on the points table.


Newtown Jets 28 (C Brown, N Mataitonga, S Sauiluma, N Gardner, G McCallum tries; Gardner 4 goals) bt Manly Sea Eagles 20 (D Kelly 3 tries; K Aldridge 4 goals)

SUMMARY: Newtown Jets won their first match since round 11 after a strong second-half performance against Manly Sea Eagles. The Jets forwards laid the platform for the 28-20 scoreline, with Nathan Gardner simply outstanding at fullback. Dylan Kelly did a superb job in the first half for the Sea Eagles, who could not defend their 14-12 halftime lead.


Canterbury Bulldogs 44 (T Phillips 2, C Thompson 2, B Clark, M Makatoa, C Stanley tries; C Stanley 7, D Chisholm goals) bt Illawarra Cutters 28 (S Wakeman 2, K Glymin, K Brennan, J Hunt tries; S Crook 4 goals)

SUMMARY: The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs continue their strong recent form with a significant 44-28 win over the Illawarra Cutters at WIN Stadium. Despite conceding five unanswered tries in the final 19 minutes, the Bulldogs had already done enough damage in the opening hour to secure their fourth win in their last five starts.


North Sydney 26 (J Olive 2, C Walker 2, C McInnes tries; D Nicholls 3 goals) bt Wests Tigers 8 (K Lulia, K Rowe tries)

SUMMARY: North Sydney Bears put in an incredibly-dominant performance over Wests Tigers, comfortably beating them 26-8. Cody Walker was unbelievable for the Bears, who were in control for the entire 80 minutes and never looked like losing. John Olive returned from first grade to bag two tries in the opening 15 minutes.


Wentworthville Magpies 16 (J Butler-Fleming, H Lavaka, V Toutai tries; B Henry 2 goals) bt Newcastle Knights 12 (H Tuha 2 tries; K Holland 2 goals)

SUMMARY: The Wentworthville Magpies held on to defeat the Newcastle Knights at Ringrose Park 16-12. With a 10-6 half-time lead, the Magpies managed to hold off a fast-finishing Knights outfit in a game marked by the defensive efforts by both sides.


Wyong Roos 19 (L Setu, E Vunakece, N Smith tries; T Cornish 3 goals; Cornish field goal) bt Penrith Panthers 18 (T Sopoaga, M Watene-Zelezniak, W Smith, A Davis tries; W Smith goal)

SUMMARY: Wyong came back in dramatic fashion to snatch a one-point win over league-leaders Penrith 19-18 at Central Coast Stadium. Penrith scored four tries during the game to lead 18-6 midway through the second half before Langi and Cornish combined late to steer Wyong back into the top four.
